Ultra Low Emission Zone is coming

On Monday 8 April a new Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) will be introduced with the aim to improve air quality in the capital.

The new ULEZ covers the same area as the congestion charge: from Euston Rd down to Elephant and Castle and Hyde Park to Commercial Rd in the east.

Vehicles will need to meet new, tighter exhaust emission standard. Drivers using diesel cars or vans that are more than four years old, or petrol vehicles registered before 2005, will have to pay £12.50 to drive within the zone. This levy will apply on top of the congestion charge.

For heavier vehicles, such as HGV’s, buses and coaches, that don’t comply with the new standard, the charge will be £100.

The zone is set to be extended to the North and South Circulars by 2021, which means all of the Royal Borough will be included in the zone.

To help businesses prepare for the ULEZ, TfL have launched a ULEZ scrappage scheme for charities and microbusinesses. We are encouraging all charities and microbusinesses who operate non-compliant minibuses or vans to check their eligibility for the scheme and apply as soon as possible.

Details about the scrappage scheme and more on how to apply can be found on the TfL website:
