Bond Is Back (On A Bike?)

24/10/2012

And so Bond is back. The latest 007 film ‘Skyfall’ opens this Friday (26 Oct) and if reviews are anything to go by, it’s going to be one of the best Bond films ever made. We imagine there will be the usual line-up of exotic locations, incredibly evil baddies (Javier Bardem with a blonde wig this time, it seems), Bond girls and an intriguing array of unbelievable gadgets for cinema audiences all over the world.

And so at Bikeminded, as we do, we started thinking about what kind of bicycles Bond had ridden in previous films. And it seems, he hasn’t. I know!? Motorbikes (in ‘Skyfall’ for example), but not bicycles. So until there is a campaign going to get ‘Bond on a bike’ in the follow-up to ‘Skyfall’, we have found a few bicycles that could perhaps be suitable for 007.

What do you think? Which is your favourite?

Aston Martin -77 gets my vote. Bond gadgets are stealthy, unlike the flame thrower cat track bike, although it is pretty cool!

What about full suspension down-hill mountain bikes? They are way more technical than the bikes shown and could go over obstacles that these bikes can’t. I would have a bike that transforms to the terrain and used souped up version of current bike accessories (cameras, iphone holders, stans no-flat system) to bring the bike over the top! Extra gizmos that don’t really fit on a bike look fake and klunky.

I’d love to see the heritage one, but I suspect that the films would work better with something a bit more suited to some impressive stunts. Maybe he could start flirting through a park somewhere on the heritage, then switch to a full-on mountain bike as the need arises…

Looks like the Aston Martin currently has the edge. And we really like that one. Though we’re getting to like the smooth, elegant lines of the Peugeot, which may look like a Bond bike, but it’s still not an Aston Martin!

A beautiful bike! And it is indeed genteel, elegant and comfortable. However much I’d love to see Bond on this bike in the next film, I sense that the producers may disagree.

Just watched Skyfall over the weekend, and the motorbike chase scene is well worth a watch. Zooming up steep stone stairs, through exotic bazaars, and along the top of narrow stone walls with perilously high drops either side. Bond even used an empty cello case in The Living Daylights to escape the bad guys. Definitely agree it’s high time a bike made an appearance.

Fantastic film, isn’t it? Re Bond on a bike – who knows James? Maybe one day!

I’m a bit late to the party, but WorkCycles do a bike called the Secret Service:
