Well, not today, but tomorrow. Saturday 15th September is our first Wild West Bike Polo Tournament!
Previously described as being beautiful, energetic, vibrant, challenging and politely aggressive, bike polo is increasingly becoming the sport of the moment.
If you’re not sure what bike polo is about, watch ‘Under The Westway’ - a short film we had commissioned to raise awareness of our weekly bike polo Open Sessions at the Westway Sports Centre. Shot by our design partners from BEAM, the film gives you an idea of what an average bike polo night at the Westway is like.
One of the nice things about the bike polo Open Sessions is that the men and women bike poloists who come along have created a real sense of community with the regular, more experienced players showing the ropes to the occasionally slightly nervous beginners. And a testament to the fact is that the filmmaker who went along on the night to shoot the film ended up not only staying and joining a team, but he liked it so much, he’s been back again since! So what do you think?
Together with the London Hardcourt Bike Polo Association, Bikeminded has been hosting weekly bike polo Open Sessions at the Westway Sports Centre since March 2012 and they have been so popular that we are hosting our very own Wild West Beginners’ Bike Polo Tournament on Saturday 15 September. So, even if you’ve never played bike polo before, come along to the weekly Open Sessions to watch or even have a go to see if you like it and then maybe even join/enter a team! Beginners are welcome and bikes and mallets are available for loan.
Please note that Open Sessions will be held on THURSDAYS at Westway Sports Centre from 7-10pm starting Thursday 20th September.
We are always looking for keen cyclists to come along as teams/players to the Open Sessions and remember, bikes/mallets are available for loan where needed.
